So... I'm not normally one to comment or get emotionally involved in the lives (or deaths) of celebrities, but I feel I can't ignore the passing of this particular person. When you grow up watching an actor in numerous roles, you begin to take that person for granted much like you would family. Not to say that you know him for what he truly is, only that the frequency seems to breed familiarity. The suicide (as it is currently deemed) of Robin Williams was announced today, and I must say that I'm devastated. I never would have imagined that someone so talented, witty, and candid could be battling with a depression deep enough to commit suicide. Despite any political affiliations, I feel that President Obama said it the very best:
"Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit."
Robin Williams was, and will continue to be, one of my favorite people in Hollywood. He was a comedic genius, a talented actor, and I will truly miss his presence on the silver screen.
I saw someone say that they hoped this began an open dialogue about depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, etc. I really hope it does; there's no reason for these things to be such a stigma in our society. What everyone really needs is a support system. Always.
